Spanish at Alexandra

At Alexandra, we believe that learning a new language is a gateway to understanding different cultures and broadening horizons. Spanish is an exciting and widely spoken global language, and our engaging lessons help students develop valuable communication skills from an early age.

Through interactive activities, songs, games, and conversations, children build confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish. Learning the language also enhances their problem-solving abilities, memory, and creativity while reinforcing skills in their native language.

By teaching Spanish, we prepare our students to be confident global citizens, fostering cultural awareness and opening doors to opportunities in an increasingly interconnected world.

Children enjoy learning about food, dance festivals and exciting places to do tourism from their class country, as well as practical vocabulary that would help them to maintain simple conversations with a Spanish speaker.

Pupils participate in a weekly lesson of 30 minutes, delivered by our HLTA and native speaker Ruth de la Cruz. The lessons involve a variety of engaging approaches to teaching and learning, including speaking and listening activities, lots of opportunities to role play to consolidate new learning through a variety of authentic material to ensure all pupils are fully engaged. Year 3-6 also do some writing.
